Blood Culture - Microbiology Blood Culture Bags

About this product...

Microbiology traditionally sends to the wards two blood culture bottles ‘Anaerobic’ ‘Aerobic’ to collect blood samples together with a specimen bag and a list of instructions with the correct procedures in taking blood. The reason for including the list of instructions is if the Doctor/Nurse does not take the blood correctly this can lead to a number of false positive readings and delays in the patient’s blood results.

In some hospitals, Infection Control have been working with Microbiology and have identified the list of instructions inside the bag have not been read. Infection Control have recommended that the instructions be printed on the front of the bag in plain sight hopefully in reducing the re-taking of patient’s bloods and false negative tests results, helping to enable appropriate use of antibiotics
